David was born in Ghana, West Africa. David arrived in the United States on New Year’s Day, 1996 to attend college on scholarship. Growing up in Ghana, David had always been intrigued by Susu, a nonformal community-based savings practice where family and friends come together in order to borrow and lend money to each other. Every time David visits his family back home in Ghana, he observes how the rise of cellphone-based Mobile Money, is radically transforming the lives of the “unbanked” and “underbanked'' by exponentially meeting users with banking services where they are, on their cellphones.
Founding OurBanc is David’s lifelong observation and belief in the power of People helping People and the use of appropriate technology to better the lives of others.
